Position Overview:

The General Manager (GM) will serve as the operational leader responsible for driving the execution of United Bags' strategic goals across all facets of the business, including manufacturing, supply chain, sales, customer success, quality control. This role is ideal for a visionary yet hands-on leader who thrives in complex industrial environments and is passionate about long-term growth, performance excellence, and continuous improvement.

The GM will work closely with the executive leadership to ensure United Bags remain agile, efficient and customer focused. The role requires a strong balance of strategic planning and operational execution with an emphasis on measurable outcomes and cross-department leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement long-range business strategies aligned with United Bags' growth and innovation goals.

  • Identify new markets, technologies, and partnerships to diversify product offerings and expand customer reach.

  • Lead organizational change initiatives, sustainability, and modernization of manufacturing capabilities.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee daily operations of the company, including production, logistics, procurement, and quality assurance.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs for departments and ensure accountability across all teams.

  • Drive lean manufacturing practices, workflow optimization, and cost control measures to increase efficiency and output quality.

Financial Stewardship:

  • Manage P&L responsibility with full budget oversight, working closely with the executive leadership team to ensure financial targets are met or exceeded.

  • Develop accurate forecasts, capital expenditure plans, and ROI analyses for operational investments.

Commercial Growth:

  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to align product capabilities with market demand and customer expectations.

  • Build and nurture relationships with key clients, negotiating high-value contracts and long-term agreements.

  • Identify new business development opportunities through competitive analysis and market research.

People & Culture:

  • Lead a diverse team of department heads, providing mentorship, feedback, and succession planning.

  • Foster a high-performance culture centered on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Champion workplace safety, ethical practices, and employee engagement at every level of the organization.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and industry-specific regulations related to workplace safety, labor, environmental standards, and trade.

  • Proactively manage operational and reputational risks through effective policies and internal controls.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in industrial manufacturing or packaging, with at least 5 years in a senior/executive management role.

  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing operations, supply chain logistics, quality control systems, and ERP platforms.

  • Demonstrated success in P&L ownership, operational scaling, and cross-functional team management.

  • Proven track record of leading cultural transformation, driving profitability, and executing strategic change in a mid-size to large enterprise.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to inspire and influence at all levels.

  • Knowledge of relevant compliance areas such as OSHA, ISO certifications, and environmental regulations is highly desirable.

Additional Requirements:

  • This role is based on-site at United Bags' headquarters and primary distribution center.

  • Moderate travel required (up to 25%) to meet with vendors, customers, and partners.
